Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You

Distance Education: Is a Virtual Classroom for You
Part 2
Positive aspects of distance education
·       Independence and time management: taking courses online lets you hone your ability to work on your own. You also gain experience in managing your time efficiently.
·       A flexible schedule: school can only provide a certain number of class periods in a single school day, and there may not be enough time for you to take everything you want. Because distance education lets you take classes outside regular school hours, it gives you the flexibility to explore all your areas of interest.
·       Advanced and specialized classes: some school can’t provide advanced and specialized classes. Distance education gives you the chance to gain experience in areas that would otherwise remain out of reach.

The Power of Study Groups

Working Together Helps Everyone
You may have noticed that when you’re explaining something you’ve learned to a friend, you begin to understand it better yourself. This happens because, when you explain an idea, you need to think more deeply about it.
The same principles make studying groups useful. Studying with others in small groups is helpful because you:
ü  Think out loud.
ü  Share ideas
ü  Learn from one another
In an effective study group, you and other students hash out lesson material together—explaining concepts, arguing about them, figuring out why one person’s answer differs from another’s—and in the process, you most likely learn  more than you have studying by yourself.

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens

7 Habits of Highly Successful Teens
Habit 1

By Sean Covey but modified

Habit 1: Be proactive.

Being proactive is the key to unlocking the other habits. Help your teen take control and responsibility of her life. Proactive people understand that they are responsible for their own happiness or unhappiness. They don’t blame others for their own actions or feelings. Proactive people realize that the ball in their court, that they are the captain of their own ship; that they are in control of their decisions, thoughts, choices, decisions, goals, actions, and priorities. Proactive people are self-starters; they don’t wait to be told what to do, they press forward with enthusiasm toward the achievement the achievements or their assignments, their duties, their responsibilities, their obligation. Choosing to do what is write is a proactive decision. Obey the rules. Obey the law. Obey the coach. Obey the school policies. Obey your parents. Obey the exactness, and great things will come to you. Be proactive and take the initiative.

Profile of a Successful Student

Profile of a Successful Student
Part 1
A successful student….
… Takes responsibility for his/her own learning
Online learning can be powerful, stimulating, engaging experience for the student who can work and think independent. However, since most-of-all-of the learning takes place on your own time; you will not have the kind of direct supervision you would in a classroom. Online learning therefore requires a significant commitment from you. All education come down to what you’re willing to invest in the experience- this is particularly true in the online environment. Commitment, self-discipline and self-motivation are all key qualities to ensuring success in online course!

…is comfortable and confident with written communication
Reading and writing are the basis of most online courses, so it’s critical that you feel comfortable with this form of communication. While some courses contain modules that include video or other activities, all of them require significant amount of reading. And nearly all of your communication with your classmates and your instructor will be in writing. If these are weak areas for you, you will want to address those issues prior to enrolling or while enrolled in an online course. The PSU wrighting Center is available to assist you … is willing to be a memeber of an online community.

Student Success Statement

Student Success Statement
“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
–Henry David Thoreau
Reflection: This statement is very true because nothing wrong can come from goo things. On the other hand if you invest in bad things for example alcohol and cigarettes than that’s something that has bad results written all over it.

Successful Students

Successful Students
3-4
3 . . . . ask questions. Successful students ask questions to provide the quickest route between ignorance and knowledge. In addition to securing knowledge you seek, asking questions has at least two other extremely important benefits. This process helps you pay attention to your professor and helps your professor pay attention to you! Think about it. If you want something, go after it. Get the answer now, or fail a question later. There are no foolish questions, only foolish science. It’s your choice.

4 . . . . learn that a student and a professor make a team. Most instructors want exactly what you want: that would like for you to learn the material in their respective classes and earn a good grade.
Successful students reflect well on the efforts of any teacher; if you have learned your material, the instructor takes some justifiable pride in teaching. Join forces with your instructor they are not an enemy, you share the same interests the same goals in short your teammates, get to know your professor. You’re the most valuable players on the same team. Your jobs are to work together for mutual success. Neither wishes to chalk up a losing season. Be a team player.

Study for Multiple Exams

Study for Multiple Exams
Part 3
English, math, foreign language tips: Practice—especially forge in language. Is it hard to succeed in a forge in language class if you are just showing up and doing the work? But if you are in your class room and look at objects and try to say them in the language you are learning it actually helps. Or if you send a simple text to your friend think about it this way you can translate to German or Spanish. These are the little things that will help. Here are my final words of wisdom for students who want to get better grades in college: time management and organization are critical key factors to success in college. And never be afraid to go and ask your teacher for help. They have office hour for a reason use them.

Academic Success
Part 1
My academic success: in my principles of marketing class, we had to come up with a new product and sell it. My group ended up with a couple supposedly bad students according to our teacher since they were the last ones picked. In the end, they helped out more than needed since I was team leader I assigned them certain pieces of the project that became solely their responsibilities. Delegating work always helps since it allows a group member individual work without separating works.
English, math, foreign language tips: Math basically just takes practice. I always tell students to take a blank piece of paper and write everything you know about what you’ve learned or what you're studying for in the class. If you don’t remember everything or start drawing blanks, then you need to study more and review your notes. Note cards work really well for foreign language here are my final words of wisdom for students who want them.
